Canyon de Chelly

We spent two days at the Canyon de Chelly Natl. Monument camping in a hogan - a traditional Navajo house. Here are some photos of the lodging:





...the last picture is what a large typical hogan looks like. Ours was a bit smaller. There was a stove, which helped keep us warm during the near-freezing nights up on the mesa, almost 6000 ft above sea level. 

The main attraction of the Monument is the canyon itself. Navajos consider it their ancestral home, so it is somewhat sacred. But there is a trail to an old Anasazi ruin called "White House", here are some pictures from that hike:
